12 Days of Christmas Countdown – Nostalgic Look Back at Our Year in Medals

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

As the festivities commence and we draw ever closer to the end of 2015 we thought we’d have a nostalgic look back at our year in medals with our very own 12 days of Christmas Countdown.

Nostalgic look back at our year in medals - Day 1 - Bishop Grosseteste University Good Luck Coin

Good luck to graduates from Bishop Grosseteste University

On the 1st Day of Christmas… We thought we’d kick off with a commemorative coin that we produced for what has to be the best university in the country – Bishop Grosseteste University  who commissioned ‘Good Luck Coins’ for all their graduates to wish them well in the future. What a lovely sentiment and a fantastic reminder of their time at university. On the 2nd Day of Christmas …

Nostalgic look back at our year in medals - Day 2 - Medals UK created a bespoke commemorative coin for Castle Craig Hospital

A commemorative ‘One Day at a Time’ coin was created for Castle Craig Hospital’s patients

We get to work with some life-changing organisations and individuals across the course of the year and day 2 of our 12 days of Christmas countdown is dedicated to one of these. We produced a commemorative coin  for Castle Craig Hospital , which is a leading rehab clinic in Peebles Scotland that treats alcohol and drug addiction as an illness and helps residents achieve long-lasting recovery through intensive personalised programmes. The Hospital approached us to produce a coin that could be awarded as part of their twelve-step philosophy of taking ‘One Day at at Time’. The beautiful silver enamelled frosted/polished commemorative coin featured Castle Craig’s mustard tree symbol which is meaningful because recovery from addiction is said to grow out of a small seed into a great tree, which in turn provides support to others entering recovery. The coin has a simple design but a significant message and represents the small step the patients have taken on the process to a new life – an inspiring, heartwarming and life-long gesture and a project that meant so much for us to work on.

We were commissioned to produce a bespoke coin to commemorate its pupils’ achievements for receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. It’s fantastic to know our products are inspiring possible future global leaders and they have a life-long memento acknowledging their hard work achieving such a prestigious accolade. On the 4th Day of Christmas…

Oh the weather outside is frightful! Well that can’t be said in relation to our next medal in the 12 Days Of Christmas Countdown, which was destined for sunnier climbs! The fetching military medal was produced on behalf of service people in South Africa and it certainly clocked up a few air miles jetting across the continents to reach its new home.

On the 5th Day of Christmas… Day 5 and as Rugby fever rocked the nation with the Rugby World Cup  we were producing the official World Table Rugby Association playing coin. The playing coin was produced by the Association to commemorate and be used in the tournaments with which ran alongside the Rugby World Cup. All proceeds raised were donated to the UK Stem Cell Foundation, a charity whose aim to help the body overcome illness and injury through its research into stem cell technology and therapy – so heartwarming to know that we have contributed to such an incredible charity. The summer months saw the City of London Borough  organise a football tournament in celebration of its 125th anniversary year. We created an array of commemorative gold, silver and bronze winners medals, which were beautifully finished with frosted/polished effect, to mark the perfect reminder of the event.

Nostalgic look back at our year in medals - Day 7 - Winners medals for HMC and Unicef's Chariots of Fire race by Medals UK

Chariots of Fire was recreated to raise funds for Unicef

On the 7th Day of Christmas… Christmas is the time for giving and day 7 of our Christmas Countdown highlights this as we’re turning our focus to another worthwhile charitable event we worked with. Every 9 minutes a newborn baby dies of tetanus, which is preventable with a simple vaccine. HMC the association for independent schools’ head teachers joined forces with Unicef to help raise money towards eradicating neonatal tetanus and give every mother and child the chance of a brighter future. In October nearly 100 heads teachers recreated the infamous run from the Chariots of Fire  movie on a beach in Scotland and the winners were presented with our medals. The run raised enough money to save 750,000 children’s lives and help Unicef go someway to achieve their target of saving 6.25 million people. We’re delighted to have played some part in another amazing life-changing event and think that HMC should be congratulated for their wonderful achievement. On the 8th Day of Christmas…

The festival celebrated its fifth year and it was great to see hundreds of participants, both amateur and professional, pedaling their way across our beautiful county first hand. We’re looking forward to next year’s Festival already so get the dates in your diary: 02-03 July 2016.

Nostalgic look back at our year in medals - Day 19 - Charity race medals by Medals UK for SHHiRT's Clapham Common Challenge

SHHiRT’s Clapham Common Challenge race medals

On the 9th Day of Christmas… On the 9th day of Christmas my true love gave to me a TSHHiRT! Day 9 celebrates a wonderful charity that we had the pleasure of working with earlier this year, SHHiRT. The Samuel Hardgrave Harlequin Ichthyosis Research Trust (SHHIRT) is the only UK registered charity dedicated solely to researching Harlequin Ichthyosis, and helping those affected by it. The charity was started in September 2010, following the short life of Samuel Hardgrave, who died aged just 37 days. Sam’s parents, Jamie and Clare, wanted to do something to ensure that Sam’s legacy would help others, and that’s exactly what it does. In addition to raising much needed funds for researching Harlequin Ichthyosis the charity also works to raise awareness of the condition and help connect families who have been affected by it. We produced the participants’ medals for the ‘Get the T-SHHiRT Clapham Common Challenge’ that SHHiRT organized in September. Over 300 runners participated in the 10k, 5k and 2k kids races and helped to raised funds for the worthwhile charity. We look forward to hearing how much they raised and can’t wait to hear what events they will be organising in the new year. On the 10th Day of Christmas…
